From Popular to Serious Fiction Social Consciousness in Chetan Bhagat’s One Night @ the Call Center
Name of Author :
Dr. S. Sureshkumar
Abstract:
Chetan Bhagat is a famous Indian Novelist known for his literary genius which he has established at a very young age. His literary works are not merely fictional but aim at spreading awareness among the people, especially the youth, to understand the problems of contemporary India. His ability to express his views freely has gained him a wider community of readers. Though his writings fall under the category of Popular Fiction, his works are more serious and realistic in nature. He has the credit of laying a new path in fiction writing with his calibre and creativity. His portrayal of the modern society, with all its grim reality, makes his works realistic in nature. This paper is an attempt to study Chetan Bhagat’s One Night @ the Call Center as a serious fictional work dragging it away from the hub of popular fiction.
