Review of Deconstructing the Caste Hegemony: Lambada Oral Literature by Suneetha Rani Karamsi Against the Anti-Essentialist Paradigm
Name of Author :
Dr. M Nivedita
Abstract:
In the article, Deconstructing the Caste Hegemony: Lambada Oral Literature, Suneetha Rani Karamsi critiques the rigid caste structure in India. All the castes in India have origin stories, mostly with a touch of the supernatural in order to assert the castes association as well as intimacy with gods and goddesses thus proving their eligibility to spiritual domain which they are deprived of. Stories reflect the deepest, the most intimate perceptions, relationships and attitudes of a people. Stories become the storehouse of experience, culture, tradition, and history. During story-weaving, the narratives are modified frequently because of the very fluid nature oral tradition and also because of the intentional and unintended updating constantly done by people.
