Interrogating Identity and Belonging: A Critical Analysis of George Lamming’s Novel The Emigrants

Abstract:
This research paper aims to critically analyze George Lammings novel The Emigrants, exploring the themes of identity and belonging within the context of postcolonial Caribbean society. The study employs a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating literary analysis, historical context, and postcolonial theory to examine the complex experiences of the characters in the novel. Through this analysis, the paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the psychological and sociopolitical effects of colonialism, migration, and the search for belonging in a rapidly changing world.
