Name of Author :
Fathi Muthu Zuhara M
Abstract:
A humans psyche is mostly moulded by his or her surroundings and environment. Parental care during the first five years of a child plays a crucial role in accentuating the behaviour of a child. Here in Margaret Atwoods surfacing the unnamed narrator was lost in her past childhood memories and repressed all her feelings and emotions which at last driven her insane. In this sense, the behaviour and actions of the narrator can be psychoanalyzed according to the Theory of Attachment by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth. This paper presentation portrays as how the narrator suffers and struggles because of her psyche and of her repressed memories. Her psyches constant search of safe and secure bonding resulted her to reject her commitments with her partner and isolated from mortals. The main aim of this paper is to apply psychoanalysis in surfacing by Atwood.
