The Politics of Ethnicity and Destruction: War Memories in Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun
Name of Author :
Dr. M. Krishnaraj
Abstract:
Half of a Yellow Sun has a multilayered narration and a set of multifarious themes that are touched upon by Adiche. Primarily, the novel deals with the torments of the war but it also investigates the need to heal the scars by learning to put up with the loss of life and peace. Adiche distinguishes the dual conflict in the novel that erupts between nationalism and tribalism to demarcate the differences between them in the minds of the people. The escalating tension between tribalism and nationalism has made the novelist divide the chapters into four main sections with the first and the third happen during the early sixties and the rest of the events take place during the late sixties.
