Historical and Psychological Reflection in Karnad’s Tuglaq
Name of Author :
G. Karuppasamy & Dr. A. Chandra Bose
Abstract:
Reflection on the relationship between history and psychology entails looking at how historical occurrences have shaped peoples behavior as well as the creation of psychological theories. It also involves thinking about how psychological understandings might provide insight into people and historical events. This abstract offers a succinct synopsis of how historical and psychological components interact in Girish Karnads renowned play Tughlaq. Karnad examines the characters inner anguish, paranoia, and idealism via the psychological lens while drawing on the historical stories and mythology surrounding Tughlaq. Additionally, this abstract describes the plays larger historical context. The historical setting provides a rich backdrop against which the psychological motivations of the characters are revealed. This framework is characterized by political intrigue, religious tensions, and shifting power dynamics. Karnad deftly balances the personal with the political, illuminating the perennial topic of the struggle between the duties of leadership and the needs of the individual. The play, a timeless gem of Indian theatre, provides audiences a thought provoking reflection on the enduring interaction between personal psychology and historical forces through its complex characters and rich narrative.
