The Role of Mythology in Contemporary Existence: A Study of Gita Mehta’s A River Sutra
Name of Author :
Dr. A. Kavitha
Abstract:
This paper explores the role of Indian mythology in shaping contemporary existence through Gita Mehtas A River Sutra. The novel, set against the backdrop of the Narmada River, serves as a rich tapestry interweaving mythological narratives with modern life. Mehtas work intricately examines how ancient myths and symbols retain their relevance in the present age, offering insights into human desires, self realization, and societal values. The paper investigates how Mehta utilizes Indian mythology to present a nuanced understanding of renunciation and self realization, contrasting these traditional concepts with practical, action oriented approaches to enlightenment.
