A Study on Emotional Intelligence of Higher Secondary School Students in West Bengal

Abstract:
We all are human beings and all emotion like: love, joy, fear, sadness, surprise, anger really matter to us. But many of us are neither aware nor are able to accurate express them. There are times when we need especially children even get overwhelmed by these emotion. This paper aimed to study emotional intelligence in relation to gender, type of family, area of residence, type of schools. The research method used to conduct study was survey method. The sample size was 160, within those 74 students from urban and 86 from rural are included. These were sampled using non probability technique, purposive sampling from the higher secondary level students in North 24 pargan as district. Emotional Intelligence scale was developed and standardized by Hyde, Pethe & Dhar (2002) was used for data collection. Data is analyzed by mean, SD, T-test to compare different groups through SPSS. The findings revealed that area of residence has significant effect on emotional intelligence. The result also found that emotional intelligence of higher secondary school students is not significant difference their gender, type of family and type of schools.
