Studying Translation of Poetry from Hindi to English with Special Reference to G.M. Muktibodh’s ‘The Void’

Abstract: In this paper, various literary aspects of translation of poetry in Hindi to English have been presented, with special reference to Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh?s poem „Shoonya? (The Void). The poem was first published in G.M. Muktibodh?s collection, „Chand Ka Munh Terha Hai? (The Face of the Moon Is Crooked), in 1964. It is a surrealistic poem which brings out the destruction and violence resulting from the excessive self absorption and a sense of the meaninglessness of life. The present paper attempts to critically analyse the translated poem „The Void?, from „Modern Indian Literature?, published and printed by Oxford University Press, edited by the Department of English, University of Delhi. The various nuances that a poet might face while translating a poetic piece in one language to another are also discussed in the paper
