Disrupted Identity in Leon Forrests The Bloodworth Orphans
Name of Author :
Asha P R, Dr. R David Raja Bose, Dr. S. Sunitha
Abstract:
Leon Richard Forrest is a renowned American writer whose voice stood for contemporary black African American cultural identity. His novels portray characters who are biologically and culturally orphaned. The present paper attempts to study the fragmented identities of the orphans, Regal Pettibone, Rachel Carpenter, and La Donna Scales in Leon Forrests The Bloodworth Orphans. The reasons for their fragmentation are the historical trauma of slavery, segregation, and systemic racism, which have disrupted the African American community. Their search for family, identity, and belonging, reflects the broader African American experience of seeking to reclaim and redefine cultural heritage
