Exploring the Bond between the Tribals and Their Environments in N. Ragavans Kadamban and A. L. Vijays Vanamagan
Name of Author :
Soniya S. Pillai
Abstract:
Earlier, documentaries and art films were the sources that depict the marginalised voices of the indigenous people since the dominant modes of narratives treated them as the others. But, today one can find an optimistic turn in the representation of the tribal cultures and their emotions in the movies. Commercial movies were once relegated for the sole purpose of entertainment for the masses. Now, some of them seriously look up into the issues of the aborigines and try to make aware of their sufferings to the whole world. N. Ragavans Kadamban and A. L. Vijays Vanamagan are some of the recent examples, which illustrate the lives of the tribal people and their innate connection with their environments. The objective of the paper is to explore the bond between the tribals and their environments, themes of exclusion and subjugation, and their efforts to protect their habitats in these movies.
