Critical Discourse Analysis of Kavery Nambisans Mango-coloured Fish
Name of Author :
L. Jenniffer
Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to analyse the ideology behind Kavery Nambisans novel Mango-coloured Fish through Critical Discourse Analysis by applying Faircloughs model. Language of the novel is considered as the structure of social practice. This CDA highlights how the social attitude is interdependent on the linguistic elements. The societal codes like premarital confusions, extreme prejudices and domination are collaborated through the discourse structures affecting the characters of the novel as well as the readers. Shari, the protagonist of the novel is tossed between the matriarchal rigidity and her love with a visually challenged person. The ideology of the construction of society is usually represented through psychological and cognitive versions. Through CDA, the paper delineates how language plays a vital role in the contrivance of domination, abuse, infidelity, identity, power and social practices. Faircloughs three dimensional framework description, interpretation and explanation is applied in the selected work of Nambisan.
