Indian Womens Status and Rights A Historical Perspective

Abstract:
Woman constitutes the key role in the Indian society. Women in ancient India appreciated high status and rights in society and their condition was good. The Ancient and medieval status and right of women in modern Indian society concerning Equality, Education, Marriage and Family life, Race and Gender, Religion and Culture is sustained or deteriorated. The Vedic women had economic sovereignty. Some women were involved in teaching work. Home was the place of construction. Spinning and weaving of clothes were ready at home. Women also assisted their husbands in agricultural pursuit. In the religious field, wife enjoyed full rights and regularly joined in religious ceremonies with her husband. Religious ceremonies and sacrifices were accomplished jointly by the husband and wife.
