Rejections and Phoenix-Regenerations: The Gender Question, Space and Identity in Rituparno Ghosh’s Dahon and Tagore’s Streer Potro
Name of Author :
Hriya Banerjee
Abstract:
The epical ethos of Bimala Swatilekha Sengupta in Rays cinematic adaptation of Tagores Ghore-Baire The Home and the World echoes succinctly in the varied female protagonists of Rituparno Ghosh who lenses his search of human identities in this post-modern era. He showcases the pseudo liberal intellectual elitism of the 21 century society and juxtaposes in stark daylight the core darkness the stereotypical denial of individualistic treatment of women within and without the institution of marriage.
