Motherhood and Schizophrenia; Challenges Faced by Mothers with Schizophrenia

Abstract:
Motherhood is the most crucial, critical and beautiful period in the life of a women. Motherhood implies certain responsibilities to women as taking care of children, satisfying children’s needs such as love, care, affection, proving physical support to them and the mother is the all rounder in a kids life. To provide all these services to children the mother should be physically and mentally strong. There will be many challenges the mother will go through, so she must be very talented and skilled to tackle all these issues when nurturing a child. Women with schizophrenia are vulnerable, even though her responsibility cannot be minimized. In this paper the objective is to find out the challenges faced by mothers with schizophrenia in rearing children and analyzing their difficulties in motherhood. For that purpose three case studies were conducted by purposive sampling method. Strong family support will help mothers to adjust to challenges.
