Abstract:
There has been tremendous change in the social, economic, political, cultural and traditional position of modern women in the Indian society. They have achieved a lot compared to women in ancient and medieval period. They are in powerful position holding responsible posts whether as President, Prime minister, Speaker, IAS, Judges and many more. However, are women safe in the society? Safety of women is the major concern today. Women in all walks of life suffer from various kind of physical and mental harassment. Today, women are coming out of home to participate with men in all sphere of life. They have the right to be free from violence, harassment and discrimination and right to live freely without having to feel threatened about their safety. Removing these barriers of an unsafe environment can help women fulfill their potential as individuals and as contributor to the society. This paper is an attempt to emphasize on the importance of safety of women to enable them to have the benefit of equal opportunity to participate in all sphere of their life. There are various issues and challenges that women are facing pertaining to their safety.
