Comparing Jamaica Kincaid and Shashi Deshpande in Relation with Gender Equality

Abstract:
Kincaid’s books are informed by her status of uprooted subject that are written in a deceptively simple and unadorned style. She is born in the Caribbean island of Antigua, but living in North America by intensely fond of with Antigua in all of her writing. In Kincaid’s fictions, the mother-daughter relationship often becomes a mirror image. There is deep rooted relationship between her mother country England and the island Antigua, the daughter country. She has proved as an eminent Indian woman novelist in English. Shashi Deshpande is a notable figure in Indian English Literature especially in writing about the issues of women. She is also one of the most popular short story writers in India. She portrays realistic pictures of contemporary middle-class women in her writings. Her novels are set in metro polytan cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi etc. Some are imaginary towns also. Her treatment on mother-daughter relationship in relation with female sexuality is also a special matter to discuss.
