Return to the Wilderness: A Revisionary Study of Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland from the Perspective of Zoocriticism
Name of Author :
Mrs. Bipasha Majumder (De)
Abstract:
Jhumpa Lahiri is one of a few novelists in the history of Indian English literature, who may be said to be seriously concerned with environmental crisis faced by the present day world. The latest novel by Lahiri, The Lowland, echoes the writer’s ecological consciousness and highlights the need for a prompt and vigorous concerted action so as to save the non-human community from the short sighted human greed. It provides us with an ecological wisdom that we should change our anthropocentric attitudes in to biocentric ones. Otherwise the ecological balance of the whole world will be disturbed thus endangering human survival on earth. The present paper proposes to explore the aforementioned novel by Lahiri through the lens of zoocriticism.
