Unhei’s Pursuit of Identity in Yangsook Choi’s The Name Jar.
Name of Author :
Liliane Maria Yvette .G
Abstract:
The very word identity signifies an important aspect in an individual‟s life. This aspect rose to popularity when Diaspora came into existence. People moved to unknown nations owing to the reasons like unbearable miseries of slavery, seeking jobs and interest generated by one‟s own ambition to seek opportunities elsewhere. This results in one‟s loss of identity which in turn makes the individual searching for it. Unable to embrace a new culture, and thereby missing their own culture, the individuals tend to end up in confusion and isolation. Unhei, a bright girl from Korea, moves to America leaving behind her nation which causes her to experience voluntary isolation as well as disillusionment due to her name in particular. This paper deals with various nuances associated with Unhei‟s pursuit of identity in an alien land
