Challenges in Translating Tho.Paramasivans Ariyappadatha Thamilazam in English

Abstract:
The art of Translation is one of the most essential of the modern faculties and resources in a rapidly shrinking world with hundreds of languages being spoken in different parts of the globe. Translating literary texts, however is not an easy task, since it certainly poses many problems for the translator. The main problems are Grammatical, Semantic, Syntactic and Cultural. The current Study is aim to analyze translation problems encountered when translating selected chapters in Tho.Paramasivans Ariyappadatha Tamizhagam from Tamil to English. Tho. Paramasivan was an Indian Tamil anthropologist, writer, folklorist and Professor. His book Ariyappadatha Tamizhagam is a collection of Essays on Tamil culture. The Essay taken for current study are Thaneer, Tamilar unavu and Tamilar udai.
