This paper discusses about the history of Kokborok literature that are relevant for the growth and development of short stories. There are three ways to form short stories in the language, i.e., ancient, medieval and modern period. The ancient period begun from 1897 to 1945 which Radhamohan Debbarmas book Troipur Kothamala happens to be the first Kokborok short story in the written form and Nagendra Jamatias Hathai is the first Kokborok short story in the form of books published in 1978. The Janasiksha Samiti movement from 1945 to 1979 can be called as the period of medieval history in Kokborok literature. The movement had influenced many writers and many short stories have come up during this period. The modern period sees the development of Kokborok literature both in public and private levels.
