Name of Author :
Dr. Neerupama Kohli
Abstract:
The district-wise level and pattern of development in Himachal Pradesh have been assessed and analyzed by various methods for construction of composite index and focusing on inter-district variations in the level of development. For the purpose of ranking of districts on the basis of overall level of development (comprised of core sectors of the economy i.e. agriculture, industry, economic infrastructure and social sector), principal component analysis (PCA) method has been used to construct composite index of overall development which is a linear combination of optimally weighted observed. According to the value of Composite Indices of Social Development of the districts, seven districts, namely Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una,Kangra, Solan, Mandi and Shimla districts have emerged in developed category districts while reaming districts have lagged behind.
