Agyeyas Prison Days and Other Poems: A Critical Analysis Of Prison Writing
Name of Author :
Manisha Gupta
Abstract:
This paper focuses on the genre of prison writing in the Indian milieu and presents Agyeyas revolutionary poems written in English. These poems represented the incarcerated and dissenting voices in Indias literary and cultural history when colonial rulers hung revolutionaries. These poems are the merging point where protest meets poetry. Agyeya used the imminence of death punishment by the colonial rulers to shape the revolutionaries brief life. This paper will critically examine how Agyeya has negotiated the rigid boundaries of life writings in his verses. These poems provided a more comprehensive introspection of revolutionaries aims and motivations. These poems depict a vast meaning of revolutionary action.
