Power and Gender Issues in Bapsi Sidhwas The Pakistani Bride
Name of Author :
Shalini Pandey
Abstract:
Women writers from the subcontinent havent often advocated for equal rights, but they have worked very hard to highlight the societys indifference and callousness towards women. Writers like Tasleema Nasreen, Shashi Deshpande, and Anita Desai, to name a few, have reacted quickly to their Western counterparts clarion cry. The Pakistani Bride by Bapsi Sidhwa, published in 1983, is one such moving account of Zaitoon, a Punjab plains orphan who is adopted by a Kohistani tribal named Qasim.
