Postmodern perspectives in John Updikes Marry me

Abstract:
John Updike is one among American contemporary novelists. Updikes vision of American lifestyle has been elaborated in his writings and he never fails portray the middle-class suburban life in his works. Marry Me, Updikes eight novel, this is one of the novels where he seriously attempts to present love, religion, marriages, and adultery in a middle-class setting. The presence of these elements in one novel makes it an excellent example of postmodern novel. Although there are many admiring images of life in this novel, but the essence of romance, love and social comedy is highlighted. Romance, couples, marriages, religion, adventure, social comedy has been reflected artistically in this novel. This research paper aims to discuss those different elements in Marry Me into a postmodern perspective.
