Ahom Spear: Types and Description
Name of Author :
Sauradeep Nath
Abstract:
The Ahoms, during their reign between the 13th century CE and 19th century CE, used various types of spears, such as Jathi (flat-spear), Barsha (leaf-shaped spear), Khapor (multi-barbed spear), etc. However, apart from the names elicited in the literatures, there is no other information about them. Hence, there is a knowledge gap which the paper remits by making a descriptive study of fifteen Ahom spearheads, of which ten are Jathi, four are Barsha, and one is Khapor. These spearheads are preserved and displayed in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, the District Museum in Jorhat, and the District Museum in Mangaldoi.
