Black Aesthetics in Toni Morrisons God Help the Child
Name of Author :
Rubi
Abstract:
The black aesthetic is a cultural ideology that developed in America alongside the civil rights movement in the 1960s and promoted black separatism in the arts. Kwame Brathwaites photography popularized the political slogan Black is Beautiful throughout the late 1950s and 1960s, it still resonates as powerfully today as it did at the height of the second Herlem Renaissance. Toni Morrison is the icon of the Black literature. In her last novel God Help the Child, she depicted the black aesthetics in very stunning way. In my proposed paper I will discuss the black beauty through the female characters of the novel. I will explore the black aesthetic, based on the analytical and descriptive study of various aesthetics theories.
