Resistance and Empowerment in the narrative of A Respectable Women by Easterine Kire
Name of Author :
Sharda Singh Gaur
Abstract:
Even in subcultures that seem to favour gender equality, gender resistive feminisms place particular behaviours and group dynamics at the centre of their attention as a means of maintaining womens subordination. Some types of opposition rely on the prospect of a recurrence to weaken the power of normalization. Dominant discourses are refuted through the repetition, re-articulation, and iteration of new ideas. Subversive repetitions can be characterized as movable points of resistance that move about and create a network. New facts and standards are produced by this type of opposition. This paper attempts to read A Respectable Woman by Easterine Kire to understand how women are made subservient through different cultural and ideological strategies in a patriarchal society. It renders them agencyless that results in subtle ways of producing resistance to create an individual space in a dominant environment.
