Wuthering Heights to Wuthering Hearts: A Study on Adaptability
Name of Author :
Ms. Sindhu R, Mr. Chandramouly V
Abstract:
The research focuses on the Theory of adaptability, as it provides relative history for the adaptation and the abridgment. It contextualizes certain history and textual evidence to reassert the importance of adaptability in the modern era with reference to the novel Wuthering Hearts by Kay Woodward. The novel is modeled on the canonical work Wuthering Heights. The study briefly describes the element of intertextuality in the adapted and the abridged text in orientation to the original. Adaptations of the canonical texts have played an important role throughout the history of childrens literature. It has been seen as an active and vital contributing force in establishing a common space for intellectual and intercultural communication across generations, countries and borders. In the literary sphere, adaptation has set a new direction. It entwines creativity, artistic ecstasy and emphasis on wild imaginations on the audiences mind.
