Comprehending the Puzzled Life of Women in Alice Munro’s The Progress of Love.
Name of Author :
Johnsi .A
Abstract:
The study comprehends the lives of women and their difficulties that keep them tied up under inevitable pressure. The short fiction The Progress of Love written by Alice Munro delineates the lives of women of three generations , their common concern and animosity that they pass on from generation to generation. The known and unknown aversion that they cultivated lead to a life full of hurt and irrational relationships leaving them all hurt in one or the other way. The study tries to focus on the problems faced by these women and sort out the cause of it all. The narrator Fame, is one such a character that undergoes a great turmoil and has experienced her share of disappointments and it is through her we see the lives of other women characters of this short story. Alice Munro for her share of being a woman contributes by depicting the lives of these women and their everyday small-town life in Canada .Munro gives a detailed portrayal of her characters and their behaviour by noticing the unnoticeable by which she creates a level of transparency between her and the readers.
