A Feminist Perspecrtive on Susan Glaspells Play Trifles
Name of Author :
Dr. K Anuradha & A Anusuja
Abstract:
Discrimination based on gender is a malicious attack. Gender stereotypes can hit anyone, but it affects women more than men. The concept of ‘gender superiority’ is a myth that must be eradicated from society. In Trifles by Susan Glaspell women suffer as a pawn in the hands of androcentric, patriarchal society. As the title signifies, the play explains the undermined value of women characters. The study is made to analyze the sufferings of female characters with a particular focus on the protagonist Minnie Wright. The character Minnie liberates herself from the sufferings of androcentrism by killing her abusive husband. This paper gives an insight into the plight of women in the male-dominated society and it also explains the harmful effects of male superiority.
