The All- Encompassing Abuse in Bronte Sisters’ Novels; Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and the Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Abstract:
Variety of gender based abuse has been lingering as long as the human existence is known. Some kinds are subtle and some take a brutal form and is recognized by people. The current study will throw light on various kinds of abuse that has been portrayed in the works of the Bronte Sisters by exploring these areas through psychological facts by understanding the reasons and factors behind Physical violence in Wuthering Heights, Child Abuse in Jane Eyre and Domestic Mental abuse in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Further, the study will establish, Gaslighting, as a common thread of abuse in all these works that is always present but is usually overlooked during an elucidation. The study aims to understand the importance of acknowledging and understanding gaslighting as a form of abuse that can be as traumatic as any other abuse.
