Ladyland in Sultana’s Dream and Umuja in Kenya: Consolidated Assertion of Women’s Rights and a Blow to Patriarchy
Name of Author :
Isha Rani Das
Abstract:
The overpowering constriction on the female counterparts in patriarchal society for the ages in every aspect has made them rebels against it. The rights which were long imprisoned have attempted various times to make its own way. Eventually the so called frail creatures have proved themselves discarding the inevitability of their male counterparts for their dignifying existence. Begum Rokeya Shekhawat’s Sultanas Dream is the manifestation of this strong desire where women govern a country subordinating the men with the power of intellect sharpened by the education in science and technology. This imaginary ladyland is actually found as Umuja in Kenya in the stricter form as the women of the village have asserted their rights not allowing any man to interfere in their territory and celebrate the womanhood embracing the light of education.
