Name of Author :
Manjula . V
Abstract:
The research paper is the application of Psychoanalytic theory to Mahasweta Devi‘s Rudali . Abraham Harold Maslow‘s Theory of Hierarchy of Need is applied. Shedding tears is said to be a weakness of women .The image of a crying woman is usual, while a crying man is considered as embarrassment. In Rudali, rajput men in chhotanagpur hires rudalis‘/professional mourners to cry at their family member‘s funeral. Rajput men lavishly spend money for the cremation, in order to flaunt their fortune. The story Rudali has the structure of a quasi-spiritual experience. Subalterns body and mind are controlled by upper class people. Here shedding tears of rudalis turns to a commodity to feed their starving stomach.
