Cultural Hegemony in Mahesh Dattani’s Final Solutions
Name of Author :
S Sheeba Kumari & Dr. T Manason
Abstract:
Mahesh Dattani is one of the contemporary Indian playwrights who unveils the naked truth of the society. This paper proposes to analyze how Mahesh Dattani has recreated Indian Cultural Hegemony by changing the mind from generation to generation without affecting Indian culture ethos to the road of understanding and co-operation in all walks of their life. The play Final Solutions expresses the different shades of Hegemony attitudes prevalent among Hindus and Muslims. Even the friendship between two communities ends in anguish. The chorus has been used as a magnificent technique, representing the inner voices of both the community. The disgruntled memories throughout the play projected the individual consciousness. Mahesh Dattani here treads the characters that prejudices are the integral part of human hegemony and they can be shaken only through love and humanity.
