Analysing the Genesis of the Khasi Tribe through the Origin Myth
Name of Author :
Mrs. Evangeline Lamare
Abstract:
The origin of myth is the story making impulse of man, myths are stories of the hidden mysteries of life and an attempt to probe into the inner life of the universe. Myth is an extremely complex cultural reality, which can be approached and interpreted from various and complementary viewpoints. Myths have many forms and themes. Some of the most important themes include the Creation of the world, the origin of man, the heavenly bodies, birth of Gods and divine beings, death and the life after. Myths have their own value in the attempt of the human mind, in a primitive and unscientific age, to explain the various forces of the phenomena of nature with which man is confronted, they represent in fact, the conjectural science of a primitive condition. Carl Jung believed that myths and dreams were expressions of the „collective consciousness? in that they express core ideas that are part of the human species as a whole.
