Encountering Pandemic through the art of Theatre from Plague to Covid: A Diachronic Study
Name of Author :
Dr.Shamsudheen M K
Abstract:
Theatre shows great adaptive power to cope with all adverse situations throughout history. Theatre performances often need actions, movement and space to perform. Pandemic in history envisaged theatre to adapt to changing conditions from the Athenian state to the present. An epidemic like the plague, Covid and other communicable diseases led to theatre closing. Although the spread of outbreaks posed a significant threat to theatres and playwrights, it often plays as a remarkable resilience to bring society back to normal. In this study, the research will throw light on the effect of the pandemic on theatre performance from ancient times to the present.
