Women Caught Between Two Worlds: Sidhwa’s Ice-Candy-Man and Mastur’s The Women’s Courtyard”.
Name of Author :
Rebecca Rajathi J
Abstract:
The main focus of this paper entitled “Women caught between two worlds: Sidhwa‟s Ice-Candy-Man and Mastur‟s The Women‟s Courtyard” is the psychological plight of women during the partition of India. The novels deal with the theme of partition but the significance of political description is subtle. Readings on the novels reveal the truth that the psychological trauma faced by the characters is more traumatic than the political upheavals. The paper gives an insight into people‟s plight at the time of partition and to how literature acts as a mirror of the society by capturing the reality of partition through individual perspectives as brought out in Mastur‟s The Women‟s Courtyard and Sidhwa‟s Ice-Candy-Man. The analysis of the novels concludes by arguing that women‟s suffering during partition, throws more light on their psychological trauma than the political sufferings eventually deserting the women to be caught between two worlds.
