Translation Problems in the short story Three Miracles of a Thief from Tamil to English

Abstract:
Translation is a process of converting a meaning from the Source Language into the Target Language. Translation helps to explore the components of both the languages that is the source and target language. The translator in the process of translation encounters different issues related to syntactical, lexical, stylistic, phonetic and cultural. After the process of translation the translator tries to give a practical solution to such problems identified during the process. This paper analyses the translation difficulties from Tamil to English of a short story written by Modern Tamil writer S. Ramakrishnan. No two languages have equal or identical structure based on this the translator tried to give the best equivalent of the source language in the target language. The aim of this paper is to translate, identify, classify, analyse and provide solution to the difficulties that occur during the process of translation.
