Abstract:
From the ancient time human beings are living in a community. To have a better community, love and affection is the base. Without sacrifice one cannot live a happy married life, the sacrifice, adjustment, coordination and patience must be displayed from both the sides. But one side is always dominating another. Women dominate men in service and sacrifices as well as men dominate women by their individuality. The tenderness and politeness of women are mislead by the society, and they dumped womanhood by the man created rituals. Women want to overcome the barriers, and they want to sustain their originality but unknowingly they dance to the song of men. Girija in „Lamps in the Whirlpool‟ and Nora Helmer in „A Doll‟s House‟ are typical housewives who had mental conflict to break all the barriers. They broke the myths of society, Nora Helmer lived in 19th Century, whereas Girija lived in 20th Century but their sufferings are similar to some extent, and they are the prediction of their own social setup. The paper aims to bring out the psychological background of making women a bond maid after marriage through Kohlberg‟s theory of moral development.
