Name of Author :
Ms. Jemima Joshuin T, Dr. G Arul Selvi Mariya
Abstract:
The advent of Postmodernism in 1979 with the work of Lyotard, The Postmodern Condition embraces randomness, evokes fragmentation and metafiction. It questions the canon to bring out diversified experiences and truths. The narration usually does not follow a linear structure; rather the plot is fragmented and fractured according to the consciousness of the narrator. Though Postmodernism is a distinct area for research, it overlaps and intersects with other theories such as Trauma, Memory, Historiography to establish itself. This paper delves deep into the relationship between Cultural Memory and Historiography and how they contribute to Postmodernism in Colson Whiteheads John Henry Days. It also targets how cultural memory lays the road to collective identity.
