Abstract:
Nayantara Sahgals Sahithya Academy Award winning novel Rich Like Us depicts the life of post independence era. As Sahgal is the daughter of Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, the sister of Jawaharlal Nehru, she has brought the realities of India during her period. She has focussed mainly on the different life styles of the elites and the indigents. Similarly Kavitha Kane known for her retold mythic fictions brings to light the primodials life styles with modern twist and turns. These novels can be analysed with a hope of revising the history will help to find solution for the problems of present in India. This paper attempts to analyse the three statuses in society. They are inequality between the elites and indigent, status of men and women and combat between traditionalism and modernism. These analyses will help to find out that the elements of history which are repeating from age to age.
