Name of Author :
Kamini Verma, Dr. Disha Khanna
Abstract:
Transgender people dont fall under heteronormativity as their sexual orientation doesnt seem coherent to society. They are cross-dressers who usually experience gender dysphoria. They experience more severe mental trauma than the cis-gender population because of violence, sexual abuse, lack of social recognition and discrimination, which is a regular ordeal for them in society. The purpose of this paper Trauma Experienced by Transwoman Protagonist in Meredith Russos If I Was Your Girl is an attempt to explore the trauma that has been experienced by the main character, Amanda, in the novel. Meredith Russo is an American YA author from Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a trans writer, she is able to showcase the plight of Amanda, in whom harsh social environment generates anxiety issues throughout her life. This vulnerable population faces lots of mental and physical turmoil on a regular basis. This paper projects agony, suffering, scars, trust issues, treachery, and identity crisis in the life of Amanda.
