Abducted: A Comparative Study of Sita from Ramayana and Helen from Iliad
Name of Author :
Mrs. K Nisha
Abstract:
Mythology has always been fascinating and awesome. It has enchanted human beings for generations. It has inspired and inculcated moral values in people. Mythology will continue to play an essential part in society because myths offer answers to problems that cannot be explained and give people hope in difficult times. Even in todays scenario, we find comfort in the heroic figures of our comic books and movies, as well as in the sweeping sagas of science fiction and fantasy. All of them make use of legendary motifs. There are many different cultures and beliefs in the world, and also quite a number of mythologies around the world. To name a few, ancient Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology, Indian Mythology, Native American stories, Japanese folklore, etc. This study attempts to explore two influential protagonists from two great epics belonging to two different cultures and traditions. One character is Sita from the Indian Epic The Ramayana, and the second character is Helen from Greek Epic Iliad. Both the characters share one similarity, i.e., abduction.
