Abstract:
African American literature is a study of literature that imposes importance on black people their society and their culture and history. It gives the writing of the black writers who settled in America. The basic themes of the writers are slavery, the struggle for freedom, and the search for identity. African American literature reached its height at the beginning of the 1970s. Many significant writers came to the mainstream during this era including Toni Morrison, a fiction writer.
