The Psychosocial Development in Neil Simons Barefoot in the Park

Abstract:
The American playwright, Marvin Neil Simon has bestowed prodigious works of comedy. His use of reality in his plays left readers captivated in the story line. His characters portray the typical middle-class and urban lifestyle. Analogously Barefoot in the Park portrays the domestic love life of Corie and Paul Bratter. The plot moves as the conflict arises due to the incompatibility between the couple. The central character focused in this paper is Corie Bratter who is a newlywed young woman with great dreams for her future. The paper discusses the societal life of Corie and the causes of the conflicts in her post marital life. Psychosociology can be defined as the study of social integration of an individual with his or her society. Cories development in her attitude towards family life and the way she finally realizes the reason for the conflict is revealed. It highlights her evolution from the infantile to a matured woman.
