Name of Author :
R Annalakshmi
Abstract:
Within the realm of contemporary literature, belonging and identity is one of the pivotal, intricate and compelling themes. The study of such a mixed theme untangle the complexities of human existence, selfdiscovery and the longing for connection and acceptance. This paper aims to explore how kingsolver navigate the intricacies of identity formation and the significance of belonging in the novel, Animal Dreams. By scrutinizing various characters, settings and narrative techniques utilized by the author, this study disclosed the profound impact of identity and belonging on the life of protagonist, Codi. It is revealed by Codi and her father Homers interdependent narratives. This narrative penetrates into their individual and complex identities and somewhere between Codi and Homers narratives lies the history of Nolinas, their family identity and of Grace, the place they belong to. This paper also investigates the dynamics of Codis identity, encompassing factors like culture, social constructs and personal experience. Furthermore, this paper examines the intersectionality of identity and belonging.
