Gender, Identity, and Social Awareness in the plays of Mahesh Dattani

Abstract: This paper is proposed to study the select dramas of Mahesh Dattani with the reference to the Gender and power dynamics; identity and self-discovery; social and cultural conflicts; prejudice and discrimination and family relationship in contemporary times. Contemporary Indian dramas reflect images of protagonists confined to set gender roles in tandem with rigid tradition and orthodoxy. The drama in the near recent times depict the western influence in the Indian society.
