Literature as a Vehicle of Social Change
Name of Author :
Smt B. Anuradha, Sree G Raja Kumar
Abstract:
Literature has its presence in almost all the languages of the world. Its presence has assumed many manifestations: folk songs, folk tales, oral traditions, and written form are some of its manifestations. There is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. Similarly, it can be said that words are more powerful than arrows. They directly pierce into the hearts and minds of the listeners; thus, the words galvanize the listeners into action for achieving the desired result. When persons with scholastic excellence perennialize words in the form of letters, they attain the status of immortality. In their immortal form, they continue to influence generations together. Literature, which is nothing but a spontaneous expression of powerful feelings, continues to influence people of all hues leading them to mould their societies. The world has witnessed many epochal events that have taken place owing to the influence exerted by such literature. Thus, literature was, is and will be a vehicle of social change for ameliorating society.
