Abstract:
Disability in children literature is under representation in many works produced for Children. Additionally, it prompts a negative impact on the readers and degrades the personality of children with disability. Childrens picture books are very prominent in educating the young mind to unearth the reality of the world. Autism is a spectrum disorder which considered as a disability which leads to cause behavioural, communication and social problems for the people who undergo through diagnosed. Samantha Cotterill is a famed Illustrator and author for unnumbered Childrens picture books which focus on sensory issues that act on children with autism. Her picture book It was Supposed to be Sunny buffs on a character hailed from African American race; affected with autism spectrum and also other sensory processing issues. This paper sheds light on how autism is portrayed in the Picture book, and how a person with disability is treated by their loved ones and society from the lens of Social Model of Disability. Eventually, it echoes the importance of accepting Autism and voices out for their presence in Childrens literature.
